The Beginning

The creation of Superman started in the early 1930's when, Author, Jerry Seigel and Illustrator, Joe Shuster, two high school students decided to create the one and only, Superman. Little did they know, Superman would turn out to be one of the most popular Superheroes created in history. Superman is not only a superhero, but also a role model to many children and teens. He is the image that many children desire most.

Jerry Seigel was born into a family that immigrated to the United States from Eastern Europe during the time when Europe was going through anti-Semitism (Darknite125). Mr. Seigel attended school at Glenville High school in Ohio where he met his future comic illustrator and partner, Joe Schuster. Joe and Jerry both loved science fiction and would someday create arguably the greatest Superhero in the world (Darknite125).
Where did Superman come from?

Since Jerry and Joe loved to write and draw, they figured they would put this together and come up with a comic strip that they had no idea would become so popular. Originally, Superman was a villain that was bald with super powers. Both Jerry and Joe realized that Superman should be a hero, not a villain (Darknite125). Now, the background about Superman is quite interesting, pulling the readers in one by one. Superman or Kal-el was born on the planet Krypton that was going to explode due to a gigantic nuclear reaction on the planet. Jor-el, who was the father of Superman realized that the planet was going to explode and saved his son by putting him in a space vessel and sent him flying to the planet Earth ("Superman").
Superman safely landed on Earth, obviously in the United States, Smallville, Kansas to be exact. He was found by a local couple who would become his mother and father, Jonathan and Martha Kent ("Superman"). After finding this poor infant in a vessel, these two concerned people thought he was part of some evil experiment and adopted him as their own, naming him Clark, Clark Kent ("Superman"). As a child, Clark grew up like any other normal human being, no superhero powers, yet. As he got older and his body started to change, he noticed these superhuman powers start to unravel. When he was 18, his mother and father took him to the field where they had found him 18 years ago. Clark promised he would only use his powers for the good of man-kind ("Superman"). Since that day on, Kal-el, Clark and now, Superman has used his powers to not only help society out in the Superhero world, but has had everlasting effects here in reality as well. I will go into depth on the different effects that he has had on children in my page titled “Positive Effects” and “Negative Effects.”

Superman's Powers

As we all know, Superman possesses multiple super powers and abilities. Superman acquired these special powers and abilities when he was born on Krypton because of the Kryptonian sun. The first power and maybe the most important is his superhuman strength. A source says, " He possesses tremendous strength; while Superman's strength is not infinite, its full extent is so great that it has never been accurately measured. His body is virtually indestructible ("Superman")." Along with Superman's amazing strength, he has very sharp senses. For example, he can hear sounds that a normal person cannot. His vision is also very keen, being able to see in the distance farther than that of the human eye. Microscopic vision helps him see microscopic objects and his x-ray vision allows him to easily see through objects ("Superman"). As mentioned earlier, Superman can fly and create force fields around himself as well. He's got to be the greatest Superhero known to man because of these unbelievable powers.
In spite of this nearly indestructible hero, he does have a weakness. Superman, when exposed to Kryptonite radiation will die within minutes ("Superman"). Superman is somewhat defenseless when facing magic and some other powers of other beings such as Braniac ("Superman"). Undeterred by his weaknesses, Superman will fight until he feels his job is done, just like any other superhero would.
